A.Preventing Mold Spots in Glass Bottles
Moisture in the air can react with alkali components in glass, causing white spots or streaks — a process called alkali leaching. This can be affected by glass composition, storage conditions, and time.
By applying a difluoroethane coating to the bottle’s inner surface, water resistance is improved, shelf life is extended, and the risk of mold spots is greatly reduced.
B.How the Process Works
Difluoroethane is sprayed onto the inner surface of freshly formed, high-temperature glass bottles. Under heat, it combusts to produce hydrogen fluoride (HF), which reacts with sodium and potassium ions leached from the glass surface. This removes alkali, enhancing water resistance and preventing alkali leaching.
Chemical reactions:
2C2H4F2 + 5O2 = 4CO2 + 2H2O + 4HF
HF + NaOH = NaF + H2O
HF + KOH = KF + H2O
The spraying process ensures a complete reaction, delivering consistent alkali removal results.
