Factors Influencing Wear Resistance of Refractory Materials

Abrasion resistance is the ability of refractories to resist external wear.  Some requirements on the wear resistance of refractories are put forward, such as cement rotary kiln transition zone, circulating fluidized bed boiler and dry quenching furnace cooling section. 

The strength, hardness, density, bonding strength and microstructure of the material have great influence on the wear resistance of the material.  The service temperature of the material also has a certain influence on its wear resistance.  A lot of research work has been carried out on how to improve the wear resistance of materials.  In addition to improving the density of materials and reducing the defects of materials, the main research ideas are divided into the following parts:   
(1)grain refinement.And then improve the overall uniformity of the material.
(2)Introducing enhanced phase.The composition is compounded to form a polyphase material
(3)Phase transformation toughening.Generally speaking, the same hardness, high strength material wear resistance is more excellent. 

The wear resistance of samples can be improved by selecting materials with good wear resistance, introducing the second phase with high hardness and strength and selecting reasonable particle gradation.
